#10 Getting my diving certification!

Getting my diving certification

Hello friends! πŸ€™πŸ’–

In case you guys are wondering, I have both the Open Water Dive Certification as well as the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification, allowing me to do drift diving (diving with current) and up to 30m depth! I might also consider learning Enriched Air Nitrox Certification and Rescue Diver Certification in the future too. ☺☺

So here are some details about them!

I travelled to Indonesia to get both certifications as I love the marine life in the waters around the Indonesian coasts. Bali for Open Water and Komodo Island for Advanced Open Water.

Open Water Diving Certification

Done in Bali, Indonesia! A reason to travel to Bali and enjoy the beautiful blue waters.

It was 3 days, 4 dives. 🌊🌴

- Consists of pool training on the 1st day

- There are many dive centres in Bali for different dive sites and prices

Mine was: https://www.balidiving.com/

- The dive centres can be contacted through email/ WhatsApp πŸ“§

- Locations of dives; Tulamben (USAT Shipwreck; Liberty), Padang Bai (Blue Lagoon & Bias Tugel)

Advanced Adventurer Diving Certification

(AKA Advanced Open Water Diver Certification) 🐟🐠

This certification was done in Labuan Bajo, Flores in Indonesia

If you want to visit Komodo Island, this is a great place to consider!

It was 2 days, 5 dives! Sounds tiring, but it was a lot of fun and much to learn. The reefs were beautiful, teeming with marine creatures. I saw my first shark here! A black tip reef shark. 🦈🦈🦈

The locations of my dives were at... πŸ’«πŸ’¦

- Siaba Besar

- Makassar Reef

- Tatawa Besar

- Mawan

- Baung Penyu Bay (Turtle Neck)

My diving specialities for this certification were:

1. Perfect Buoyancy

2. Waves, Tides & Currents

3. Fish Identification

4. Deep Diving (30m/100ft)

5. Navigation

Requirements for Open Water:

There are some requirements before you can start with Open Water Dive Certification, whether PADI or SSI (similar certifications, recognised around the world).

They are...

1) Be able to swim 200m continuously without aid

2) Medically fit to dive

Do check with your doctor if you have pre-existing medical conditions.

3) Float or tread water for 10min without aid

4) Be at least 10 years old (10-14yo get Junior Diver Certification)

Overall, it was so much fun learning to dive and being gifted with sightings of the beautiful underwater world. 🌊🌊 I definitely enjoyed the trips to Indonesia and managed to spend other days exploring the islands and doing some freediving with my friend. 😁

I hope you guys will be able to find diving courses suited to your interest and if you have yet to decide, I hope this blog can inspire you to start getting dive certifications! πŸ’«πŸ’ž

Here are some pictures from my subsequent dives around the world 😍

Special thanks to Leonard for helping me with this post πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ
